The Press Club
Serving history
PROJECT INFORMATION +
The Press Club is a contemporary bar and eatery situated in the historic Wains Building (now a luxury hotel, Fable Dunedin).
In the 1870’s Thomas Bracken, a prominent editor, writer and poet occupied a suite of rooms to set up Dunedin’s first Press Club. In homage to the Press Club's history our solution for the identity design stylistically references traditional printers' marks, used as a graphic stamp throughout the brand. Touches of Bracken’s poetry about Dunedin appear within the space and printed collateral, reminding patrons of the buildings rich literary history.
Collateral for the contemporary High Tea service complements and contrasts the Press Club identity through playful use of colour, copy writing and imagery, the halftone image effect provides a subtle nod to traditional news printing.
